Top 5 Construction Project Management Applications

The top construction project management applications, designed to improve collaboration, and keep projects on-time & on-budget.

As the construction industry moves toward BIM and integrated project delivery (IPD), project management systems that utilize cloud computing and encourage collaboration will become vital to a project’s success. The systems mentioned below improve transparency and efficiency at all levels of the project, while reducing printing and shipping costs.

ACONEX: Aconex is a leading online project collaboration platform designed to improve the management of the project for all of the companies involved. All participants in the project can access, track and manage information pertaining to a project. The platform also works well in conjunction with other software systems, making it easily incorporated into any business.

Most recently, teams from all over the world who were involved with Singapore’s Marina Bay Sand integrated resort project used Aconex to manage information throughout each stage of the project. Aconex allowed everyone, from developers to subcontractors, to track and archive information, regardless of their location.

“The system provided a project-wide facility for the movement and storage of all kinds of project data. As document and mail transfers are done electronically, the impact of a dispersed team was significantly lessened,” Leigh Jasper, Aconex Chief Executive Officer, said in an August statement concerning the system’s role in the project. “The entire project used one Web-based system — meaning that there was no software to install or hardware to purchase. Irrespective of where companies were located, all information was securely available online.”

AEC-SYNC℠ COLLABORATION SOFTWARE
AEC–Sync is a Web-based SaaS construction management program. With a focus on transparency, AEC-Sync features a central document repository, allowing an unlimited number of project participants to view and track information pertaining to the project, from invoices to CAD drawings. The system reduces errors and redundancies, while offering services such as custom reports, document versioning, and graphs and charts.

Since the application is accessed via the Internet, participants can track and view project information from anywhere, as long as there is an Internet connection. The system is easy-to-navigate, and is easily implemented over projects large and small.

EADOC
EADOC is a Web-based construction management application that tracks and archives information pertaining to the project. Users are able to upload large files, including photos and drawings, quickly and easily, for view by the rest of the project team — from architects and engineers to subcontractors. The system is fully customizable, allowing project participants to add fields to documents and change labels, as well as add new folders.

“EADOC is the first project management application that connects every member of a project team,” says Eric Law, Founder and CEO of EADOC. “From subcontractors, suppliers and consultants, to engineers, contractors, construction managers, and owners, everyone can use EADOC to securely send and receive project information electronically. This provides owners and construction managers with unparalleled control over their projects, while dramatically reducing costs and delays. EADOC's proprietary work flow engine seamlessly connects all the players, ensuring complete control over the flow of information. This eliminates the laborious task of manually tracking information on a project, resulting in faster turn-arounds and substantial cost savings.”

PROCORE
Procore is a Web-based, on-demand, construction project management program with the ability to manage multiple projects from anywhere via a laptop or mobile device. The application tracks and manages information, from contracts and submittals, to requests-for-information and meeting minutes. Project participants can retrieve documents and photos in the online archive, and access project schedules through easy integration with Primavera or Microsoft Project scheduling software.

"While other construction software vendors have gone quiet, Procore has released hundreds of enhancements to our software during the past two years. As a result, our growth has been phenomenal. We see a tremendous opportunity to lead the industry in providing cloud-based construction project management software that can be accessed from a laptop, smartphone or tablet," notes Procore CEO, Craig Courtemanche.

SKIRE UNIFIER™
Skire Unifier is a construction project management solution accessible through any Web browser. Unifier consists of modules designed to tackle all components of the project, from schedule management and document tracking, to budget control. The program enhances transparency, and allows project participants to access and view documents from wherever there is an Internet connection.

Recently, Unifier was adopted by North Shore-LIJ Health System for the management of its five-year, $2 billion capital improvement program. Unifier will allow North Shore-LIJ to manage the hundreds of projects that are underway in the system. “Unifier met all of the detailed requirements we were looking for in one coherent interface,” said Bernie Dubin, vice president of project management at North Shore-LIJ, in a statement announcing the collaboration in August. “While other solutions we evaluated looked good initially, as we progressed through our detailed evaluation, it became clear that Skire could better meet our requirements."
